Pastoral Care

The FMDH Chaplain is there to listen when you feel vulnerable, confused or lonely. Chaplains are trained to be confidential and non-judgemental. Chaplains respect and understand various religions and cultures while providing spiritual support. Chaplains allow you to share, cry and talk with confidence, trust and comfort.

The FMDH Chaplain can offer:

Spiritual and emotional support to patients and their families

Support through a crisis or emergency

Spiritual assessment and care, according to individual beliefs, including notifying your pastor or church, if desired.

A listening ear and support to staff

Prayer and meditation and other religious services and sacraments

Assistance with end of life care and decisions

Grief and loss care for families

Help in connection with spiritual resources

Sharing joy over good news

The FMDH Spiritual Care Team is available to assit you with your spiritual care. The Spiritual Care Team's mission is to provide patients, families and staff with supportive spiritual care the will encourage healing and wholeness of life. Members of the team include the hospital chaplain, social services, nursing services and a representative from the office of helath information management/privacy.

The team want to help you understand the relationship of physical, emotional, spiritual and social aspects of health, illness and death. Among its many services, the team provides support through careful listening and demonstrating understanding of personal distress.

Services the Spriritual Care Team can offer:

Grief and loss care

Risk screening- identify individuals whose religious/spiritual conflicts may compromise recovery or satisfactory adjustment

Reconcilitaion of spiritual issues related to organ/tissue donation

Crisis intervention/critical incident stress debriefing

Spiritual assessment

Communicaion with caregivers

Facilitation of staff communication

Conflict resolution among staff members, patients and family members

Referral to hospital and external resources

Assistance with decision making regarding affairs of the deceased

How do I contact the Chaplain and Spiritual Care Team?

You may ask any staff person at FMDH to assist you in arranging an appointment with the chaplain. If you would like to arrange the appointment yourself, please call (406) 228-3665.

All pastoral care services at FMDH are free of charge.
