The FMDH Department of Surgical Services (DSS) provides patient care to patients of all ages and acuity undergoing elective or emergency surgery. Surgical services is a collaboration of several departements: Outpatient Surgery (OPS), Anesthesia, Operating Room (OR), Peri Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Sterile Processing (S/P), and Outpatient Procedure Lab (OPP Lab).
The OPS area facilitates the preparation of patients for inpatient or outpatient procedures by means of a systematic, smooth flowing process for patient registration, education and testing.
The Anesthesia staff provides a variety of services related to anesthesia and pain management.
The OR staff consists of licensed and unlicensed personnel specifically trained in surgery.
PACU provides pre-anesthesia and post-anesthesia care for the patient undergoing surgery.
The S/P decontaminates and sterilizes instruments and supplies for use in the OR, for other areas of the hospital and for the clinics.
OPP Lab staff assist physicians in diagnostic visualization of the Bronchi and of the upper and lower intestinal tract. Removal of foreign bodies and retrieval of pathological biopsies are also part of this service.
