Physical Therapy by definition is the treatment of illness and injury by physical means. Approximately 75% to 80% of our load in the Physical Therapy Department is outpatient and 20% is inpatient. Our primary patient load consists of musculoskeletal injuries or orthopedic injuries, however we see neurological disorders such as CVAS, give instruction on work-place set up for posture, and treat dysfunction in the whole body.
We see on the average, approximately 20-30 outpatients per day and 3-4 inpatients per day. All scheduling of patients will be done by the department and all patients seen are physician referrals.
The Occupational Therapy Department at Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital has a full service OT program for outpatient and inpatient. The OT department does offer services for children, including infants. If you have any questions or concerns regarding physical, occupational therapy or normal development of your infant or toddler or if they have any known abnormalities, consult your physician regarding a possible therapy referral. If there are any other questions regarding these services please contact the Physical Therapy department of Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital at 228-3635.
Cardiac Rehabilitation is an outpatient program for people who have had a cardiac event, such as a heart attack, open heart surgery, and an angioplasty or chest pain. It is a multi- disciplinary program made up of specially trained staff, Doctors, dietitians, pharmacists, physical and respiratory therapists, stress managers, and psychologists. The 12 week comprehensive program is designed to help clients develop a healthier lifestyle.
Our clients exercise Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays in a monitored environment following a progressive aerobic plan in the FMDH Fitness Center. Education for clients and family is offered, with special assistance for the individual needs of client.
Our primary goal is to help each client build up cardiopulmonary strength to prevent further cardiac problems and prevent post-heart attack hospital admissions and complications.
Following the 12 week initial phase, a maintained phase is available with continued supervised exercise for as long as the client wishes to continue. For more information about the Cardiac Rehab Program at FMDH please call 406-228-3310.
